OWNER'S MESSAGE
After retiring from the police force following 20 years of service, I took a short break to find my way back into everyday life. It wasn’t easy at first — I explored many ideas but couldn’t quite find the right direction. Eventually, I returned to what I know and love best: horses. I bought a young horse, trained her, and started attending events again. During this time, I came across Irish Donkeys — and that’s where the real story begins. Horses have always been a big part of my life. I hold a three-year degree in equine management and have worked as a thoroughbred strapper both before and after my time in the police. I’ve also been involved with harness racing and competed in various events over the years. As I learned more about Irish and English donkeys — two rare breeds with slightly different features — I discovered they are endangered, especially here in Australia. Sadly, many are being exported overseas for tourism, private collections, or prestige. The idea that we might lose these unique animals from Australia was heartbreaking. With help from some new friends and passionate supporters, we decided to take action. We brought the remaining donkeys together onto one property, and that’s how Whispering Mountains was born — just outside Taree, NSW, nestled below Mount Nellie with stunning views and natural beauty all around. This is a big undertaking, but with my background and dedication, we aim to preserve these rare bloodlines. Our foals will only be placed in exceptional homes where the lineage will be continued and respected. Historically, donkeys have served as loyal pack animals, carrying people and supplies, even helping transport orphaned lambs in the mountains of Italy. Today, they remain just as special, and we are proud to care for them.
